Dance As Medicine™ (DAM), developed by Milèna May, is a powerful, joyful and transformative practice of conscious movement. It is designed to guide you gently into fully embracing your body, experiencing your emotions, expanding your breath, and unlocking forgotten areas of the body. With DAM, we work not with tension, but with density. What moves well, what doesn't? The dance is an ongoing practice of play, curiosity, and discovering what is waiting to be unwound and discovered in ourselves.

Join me in person in Vancouver, or online as part of one of my upcoming online experiences. Sign up for my newsletter below to be notified when classes are announced both in person and online.

DAM at Sensorium: Rooted in Earth

Saturday, March 7, 1:30-3pm
$55 at Sensorium (North Vancouver)

During this session, we will work with the energy of the element of Earth. As we come to the tail end of winter, there is a heaviness and stagnation that can start to dominate our days. When earth is out of balance in our lives, it can show up as feelings of worry/overthinking and impede our ability to manifest our vision. Dancing with the element of Earth as our guide helps to bring in a sense of trust and stability and paves the way for transformation. This helps to lay a grounding foundation for incoming airy energy of Spring.

Our dance will be enhanced by the Sensorium dome chromotherapy walls and we will begin our practice with vibroacoustic resonance to ground and enliven the senses, and finish with sound healing to settle and integrate.

A bit more about DAM: Working from the "bottom up"

Most western therapy experiences focus on the mind, or "top-down", whereas DAM works from the "bottom-up", exploring what the body is holding onto. Emotions can be stored for years in our body, manifesting as physical pain, reduced mobility, heaviness, and more. While 1-on-1 talk therapy is an incredibly valuable practice, working with the body can be the key that helps unlock things that just can't seem to change. If you find yourself repeating the same destructive habits, running into the same mental blocks over and over, Dance as Medicine may be the key to help you awaken that which is ready to evolve within you.

The group setting of in-person guided dance sessions offer a unique opportunity to feel held, seen and witnessed in the presence of others, often witnessing how we all share so much of the same ancestral, systemic and collective wounds.

I completed my training as a DAM guide in Spring 2025 and am excited to bring my own background of conscious somatic movement, connection with nature, Animism, ritual and music to my community. DAM offers a unique blend of tools and maps to work with including The Five Elements, The Four Directions, floorwork, somatic integration, ritual and more, and I truly believe it is something that can change the world, one soul at a time.
